10 Funniest Moments in Wimbledon Tennis History – A Blogging Exercise

Posted on Sunday, 5th July, 2009 by One Night Site

wimbledon-greatest-mcenroeJohn McEnroe is one of the world’s greatest complainers and his eruptions are the stuff of legend. Earlier in the week we walked you through building WimbleTube.com – a video blog about Wimbledon Tennis. Today we list the Top 10 funnies from the All England Club, including of course, the effervescent Mr. John McEnroe.

Typically with this type of blog post, we’d just reel off a list of x salient points. Today though we’re going to do a little more and add some more videos to the WimbleTube.com video blog based on this concept, and we’ll walk you through why creating a list post is a great idea.

Creating an Impactful & Useful Blog Post

If you check out the more popular news sites such as Digg.com, you’ll notice a new phenomenon happening. Internet marketers and bloggers have uncovered a technique to attract more attention to their blog posts, and it’s all in the title and the format of the post – enter ‘The List Post’.

To understand the success behind this wave, we need only look to the short attention span of today’s web surfers. People have less and less time to spend on any single activity online, and so information that is broken down into easily understood, ordered and consumable pieces is just what people need.

Looking at Digg right now, I can see the following list style posts appearing on the first few pages:

  1. 7 Obnoxious ***** Who Show Up At Every Concert
  2. 5 Corporate Promotions That Ended in (Predictable) Disaster
  3. 55 Massively Demotivational Car Posters
  4. 10 Cutting Edge Robots That Live Among Us
  5. 11 Yearbook Photos That Musicians Wish We’d Never Seen

The other reason it works is that it takes the work out of certain activities. For research or business purposes, having someone take the time to define 11 Epic Wordpress Plugins for Twitter as we did a few days ago, can make your life a lot easier.

So here’s our list of the Top 10 Funniest Moments in Wimbledon Tennis History.

1. John McEnroe – You Cannot Be Serious

Probably one of the most classic moments in all of tennis. McEnroe is amazing, the sport is definitely not as colourful without him on the court.

In this clip, German player Tommy Haas tries to distract Roger Federer by coming in to the net and waving his arms around. Pretty funny. Nice to see that Federer sees the funny side of it.

Ok, I’m straying away from Wimbledon here although some moments are from Wimbledon press conferences. Roddick is a funny man, I had no idea he had so many great quotes.
